Do you have a car??? THere are lots of places near to Christchurch that are worth doing as well.

In chch itself there is the gondola that overlooks the city and the banks penisular..360 views.
THe museum I guess is worth a look and the nearby Arts Centre ( which has great markets in the weekends and there are some permanent shops during the rest of the time) and Art place.
The botanic gardens are right next door to the museum and are lovely this time of year.
Walking to the top of the cathedral in the "square" ( cathedral square)
THe Antarctic Centre is excellent ...its out by the Airport.
THe beachs there at Sumner, Taylors Mistake and New Brighton are worth going to as well, especially as the weather is getting hotter now.
If you had a car ( or you could take the bus) you could go to Lyttleton...a nice little escape...its in lyttlton harbour.
Akaroa is about an hours drive from chch and is a lovely little town in akaroa harbour....there are a couple of ways to drive there so you get different views for the different drives.

You can go to the Arthurs Pass National Park, which is a couple hours drive west of chch and is quite spectacular...going from dry to beech forest. Its a very cool drive....you can even drive to the West Coast in around 3 hrs.
The Lewis Pass area is also very lovely and worth a day just driving around.
You could go up to Kaikoura and do some whalewatching. Its about a 2 1/2 hr drive from chch..or you can take the train ( 1 train per direction per day)..the coastal pacific.
Umm thats all off the top of my head...I love chch and have lived there on and off for years. Hope you enjoy it too.

Take a ride on the Gondola, cruise the city in a tram, visit the Antarctic Centre at the airport, visit Canterbury Museum and the botanical gardens on Rolleston Ave., take a ride on the Tranzalpine train to the West Coast, visit Rae Collins'garden at 51 Halswell Junction Rd., Halswell, and have a look around the winery, just down the road from there, visit New Brighton and have a walk along the pier. Take a drive around Banks Peninsula and call in at Akaroa.

If you're spending 2 weeks in Christchurch city, I recommend going on day trips to the surrounding mountains. Try Queenstown and Arrowtown for the best ski slopes, if you like skiing.

christchurch is very Cambridge esque. Use it as a chilled out and beautiful base for exploring the South Island. Whalewatching, glacier helicopter experience, extreme sports centre of the world, loads and loads to do. Lots of info centres in Christchuch and the Kiwi's are lovely, you'll have a fabulous time!! Kia Ora!

Use it as a base to explore the fantastic south island.

I agree with all the previous suggestions. While in Christchurch I liked Hagley park for a relaxing stroll, the musuem next to it is very good, the market on Worcester street is very touristy but good none the less.

Hire a car or take the train up to Kaikoura for some whale watching, what an amazing experience.

I went on a scenic flight with Canterbury aviation which takes you over some of the most amazing scenery of the plains and southern alps mountains and lake tekapo and pukaki. Got a little travel sick in the light plane though :o(
