Around $200 the way petrol is at the moment over here, its awful! Try looking at Grab-A-Seat by AirNZ for really cheap flights. There were some on today for $80 each way which would be cheaper than petrol. =D

not too much at all. im not sure about the Australian dollar, but it's not too far a distance. maybe $50-$100 in gas. it's gorgeous scenery so definitely leave time to stop on the side of the road and take pictures. queenstown is such a fun town, and it's on the edge of fjiordland national park- THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY I'VE EVER SEEN!!!! def. make the trip down to milford sound too- only a few more hours. have fun!
