Do Australians and New Zealanders 'get on' ?

I think the rest of the world makes a big deal out of it, but we just tease eachother. There really is no reason not to get on. We haven't been at war with eachother, so there is no need for long lasting grudges.

It's just playful, not damaging nor threatening.

So yes, we 'get on'.
Our governments have allowed us to freely live in eachothers countries without requiring residency, we can attend universities in either country.
The only time we dont 'get on' is when major sports games are being played, but thats the same with any country.

Yeah we definately get on.

Usually. We jokingly hassle each other but most of the time it is just that - a joke. When it comes down to it we are 2 very similar countries and we are close neighbours, so why fight each other?

ken s
There is a friendly rivalry while we are at home, when we are overseas we tend to stick together as fellow "Down-Underers"

RogerW
Yeah mate, we're pretty good mates! Two of my friends (Kiwi males) are married to Aussie sheilas!

Yep, we like Australians, but not when they invade Iraq. We do stick up for them though if we have to. Indonesians don't like Australians but they like New Zealanders, food for thought. We've fought a number of wars side by side and we make fun of each other's accents, but there are at least 400,000 New Zealanders living in Australia. We sometimes refer to Australia as the West Island of New Zealand. They make jokes about us and sheep. The best joke ever told about Australia was when our Primeminister in the 1970s said that all the New Zealanders who moved to Australia was raising the IQ of both countries. We are definitely not the same country but there are a number of similarities. Australians tend to think of us as country cousins, but there is a lot of good humour in our relationship. The Australian Constitution says that we may join the Australian Federation whenever we want and the State of New South Wales has a land claim on New Zealand dating back to 1835.

Red.
We have a similar relationship to Americans and Canadians.

haha, samantha's answer reminds me of a Daily Show quip, about how New Zealand is like Canada for Australians, and that there are about 20 sheep for every orc.
