S
According to the 2006 census, Christianity is the predominant religion in New Zealand, held by 55.6% of the population, a decrease from 60.6% at the 2001 census. Another 34.7% indicated that they had no religion, up from 29.6% in 2001, and 5% affiliated with other religions. The main Christian denominations are Anglicanism, Roman Catholicism, Presbyterianism and Methodism. There are also significant numbers who identify themselves with Pentecostal and Baptist churches and with the LDS (Mormon) church. The New Zealand-based Ratana church has adherents among Māori. According to census figures, other significant minority religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam.

Claire Blue Says Hi
yea, sort of. a lot of kiwi's say they believe in god, but we dont go to church or anything like that...

dont believe lensta3 or that crazy sheep guy, just cos we have a lot of sheep, doesn't mean we worship them...

lensta3
Yip and he pays all of followers (the dole, DPB, sickness benefits) every week. Some people like GOD more because you can also go and see him for food vouchers when you waste your benefit on the poker machines. If you're really lucky GOD can also assist in cheap housing. Followers of God usually come in the following forms:

missing teeth, tattoos next to the eyes, on there knuckles & hands, smell like NZ Larger/Bad Breathe/Body Odour, how many little God children hanging on to them and live in 2 storey houses.

I was once a people who believed in GOD now I work.

I think about 50% would be classified as religious. On the census there would be slightly more due to people who were brought up a certain religion but no longer following it still identifying with it on the census.
A lot of New Zealanders don't belong to any religion but they do believe in god... just not so much in the church.
Also, in the 2001 census Jedi was the second largest religion in NZ! But the govt chose to ignore that haha.
See this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_New_Zealand
