Do they only accept drivers licences and passports in clubs in New Zealand? |
I know that is the case in the UK.. but would it be the same in New Zealand? Would clubs in New Zealand accept a british student card? Or only a british driving licence?
Also does anyone know if clubs accept provisional licences? in the UK also? |

Hi, I answered your question about getting a fake id and suggested that you opt for getting an 18+ card to solve all your problems
here is a link telling you all about it, and from what I gather they are only $20

it has an application form that you download so you may even be able to get one sorted before you arrive here.
I would suggest stearing well clear of fake ids!! but can understand your reluctance to not wnat to take your passport out.

Alot of places do not accept foreign drivers licenses! Bring your passport-- its accepted everywhere! also, they have a +21 card (i think that's what it is, might be +18... cost about $30when you get there, but only worth it if you will be there for a long time). They probably wont accept a student card either since they usually cant verify that it hasn't been falsified... not sure about the provisional license question. sorry.
Also, the guy above me said he didn't have problems w/ his drivers license, but i spent 6 months there and they often did not let people in w/ just their license. it does suck going out w/ your passport, but it will guarantee you entry into those places (unless you are underage of course) |

The general rule, not just in New Zealand but many other countries, is passport or drivers licences.
The reason is that student cards etc can be faked by anyone.
Very few places, if any, accept provisional licences because they are so easy to get hold of.
Most people who have the job of checking ID know all the dodges, that is their job. |

Actually, the drivers licence is NOT allowed to be asked for as a form of ID. But they all insist on it.
The reason is of course that it not an acceptable form of ID is that it is not compulsory to have one, and by asking for it, the person asking is discriminating against those who have chosen not to have one ( and those that have had their licenses cancelled by the courts and the police). |

The only acceptable forms of identification are
1. A passport
2. A *NZ issued* drivers licence
3. A HANZ 18+ card.

Now, in reality, you can probably get away with showing a drivers licence from a different country, and if you are a girl then you almost certainly couldn’t. However, it is not a legal form of identification in NZ (think about it, how would anyone know that a licence from Azerbijan was legitimate or simply something made up in photoshop?).
However, bars which are frequented by students or younger people are most likely to be very very strict with checking identification (and rightly so I should ad).
I am 28 years old and female and get checked just about every time I buy wine in the supermarket. I don’t get checked when I go out, because I tend not to go to student type bars, but when I do, I invariably get ID’d. A friend of mine from the UK, also female, uses her drivers licence when she goes out for ID. However, it was pointed out to her that it wasn’t actually a legal form of ID and the club did have the right to turn her away should they wish to - they were warning her that other places may be stricter. |

I looked well over the drinking age but they still wanted to see ID when I purchased alcohol. I don't carry my passport on me whenever I leave the house (was on working holiday) and so I persuaded the employee to accept my California & International driver license as ID, which he did but said I have to use a passport from now on. That's the only time I was ever asked for ID there but like I said, I was older. |

the drivers license is slowly fading out, i suggest you get an 18+ card, it is accepted everywhere in clubs and bars etc. |
