Yes~~~~ New Zealand should have its own distinctive flag~~~

I accept we are still a commonwealth country , but we do not need

to have a flag with the Union Jack on it

The Union Jack belongs in England not New Zealand
( after all would they want kiwis or maori designs on their flag?)

Sure its going to cost money to change the flags and make it truly

officially but doesnt everything cost money , I mean the "powers to

be " who obviously decided on the current flag didnt whine about cost

then now did they , so I say get over it, and change it

We are a new country with new ideas and our bold fresh innovative

attitudes should reflect that in our flag , not like the current stuffy one

we have inherited ( like good lil children from stuffy ole England )

( My personal opinion is that our Government sucks up to

Britain ,when it suits them ) and dont want to offend the "stuffed shirt"

You could make it a Maori flag, as that is your history. They have been there longer then the British.

Be cool if the Government changed it back to original MAORI flag, but this will NEVER happen....Our current flag is similar to the Aussie flag and a lot of people get mixed up!

Leave it the way it is. Why change it? Have we been in a Civil war? Has their been a revolution we the people have overthrown the Government? Leave it they way it is, and if you can't tell the difference between our flag and the Australian flag, then i feel sorry for you.

Hell yes!! i like the idea of the black background & the silver fern, that to me is NZ, i dont like having a flag so similar to Oz.

I don't see any reason to change the flag. In the event it represented something offensive to the public today (like they changed the SA flag after the fall of Apartheid) then I would be in agreement but the flag is so iconic to all New Zealanders I see no reason. Also a channge would cost an incredible fortune to bring about - besides the creating and distribution aspect just imagine all the curio stores/encyclopedia EVERYTHING needs to be updated - total waste of time and money in my opinion.

you could change it to nz colours (black, white, silver) but i don't really care. you should just leave it the way it is.

No i love our flag its part of our history it would suck if it was changed, if you have anything to do with changing it PLEASE don't!!!

Leave it as it is. It will look great as a state flag when NZ joins Oz. :-))

its the same as Australias to anyone not fronm OZ or NZ, a flag and an Anthem that represent NZ would be fine, the existing are ok but great is better......

also change the name, Zealand is a downbeat part of Holland, Paradise is my idea thats a good name for NZ

definitely need to distinguish ourselves from the aussie flag. Im sick of other countries thinking Nz is part of Oz. Should change it to something to do with maori and european culture

No, why bother. Flags don't mean a lot nowadays as they did in say the 1700's or 1800's. when they were a rallying point in times of battle. Very few countries fly a flag during warfare as it gives them away too easily.
