Hi there,
I don't live in the North Island, but I do live in New Zealand.
Personally, Im a South Island girl and I don't think anything can beat the South!! Haha Honestly, Its far less crowded, the people are nicer (the north it sorta feels like your just a number rather then a person) and the scenery is stunning! But I guess I am bias.
Well if you really want to move to the North, I would say Havelock North is great! Its quite small and relax, It has amazing summers and great beaches!
Another good place is Wellintotn, NZ's capital city! Its a very trendy city, with a great city center. Its quite big too with lots of things to do. Its also very beautiful.
The north is really great but I would NOT recommend living in Auckland. Its NZ biggest city but its a terrible place! Its and ugly city, its crowded and most of its quite dodgy (especially South Auckland). Listen to me, Kay! If you want to see the real NZ, Auckland's not the place to do it.
I live just outside Christchurch in the south. Christchurch has recently just become the second biggest city in NZ. Its really beautiful and has been nicknamed 'The mini London' Because it has a lot of English styled buildings. Its a stunning city and people here are really friendly. I would definitely recommend living here.
I recently went to England last christmas holidays for the first time. It was a really amazing place, but EXPENSIVE! Im sure if you come to NZ with a bit of money you will find daily living affordable and buying a good house unbelievable cheap!!! I can't tell you what water rate and energy bills are like because I don't know anything about them, But they are cheaper then England!
If you want to know anything else just message me and I will be happy to help!!!!!!!! |

Northland is okay, the weather is much warmer there and it is only a few hours to Auckland. Northland has a high proportion of Maori people and a very cultural hub for New Zealand.
Whangarei is the main centre and the city is not that expensive to live in, it is consireably cheaper than Auckland or any of the other main centres. You will be paying lower annual rates (your equivalent of council tax in UK). If you go to any of the rural townships like Kaitaia, Dargaville, Kaikohe you'll be paying dirt cheap. There aren't many jobs in those areas however.
There are some really lovely places in the area, including the Bay of Islands, Hokianga, Ninety Mile Beach, Cape Reinga ... it is always good for a drive to visit a few places during the summertime. |

What the? Auckland is NOT an ugly city. Mia, have ever seen Rangitoto on a sunny day? Have you seen the many beautiful parks around Auckland? Most areas dodgy? What the hell. SOME areas are dodgy but certainly not most. It is true that auckland has a different feel to the rest of nz but it's more multicultural up here. Better than living in thermal undies for 10 months of the year down there/ |
