Seems there aren't any Aussies hanging out on the forum :-) I am from the US but in general I can comment on the etiquette a few things that I was shocked about encountering here in India. Depending on your family you may already know or practice them.
1. Cover your mouth when you cough.
2. If someone sneezes, say "Bless you" or "God bless you"
3. Don't burp no matter how good the food is. If you should accidently burp then at least say "excuse me".
4. ALWAYS ALWAYS say "please", "thank you", "excuse me" at every opportunity. Say, "May I please have a glass of water" not "give me water".
5.If you need to pass by someone in your way be sure to say excuse me and try not to touch the person you are passing. If they don't hear you then you can lightly tap their shoulder and repeat yourself. Do not shove people out of your way.
6. Try not to bob or nod your head when people talk to you. This is an Indian habbit and it may confuse the person you are talking to.
7. Do not cross your arms over your chest as this is often viewed as a gesture of being cross/offended/upset.
8. Do not ask someone their "good name", just ask their "name".

There will be lots of things that come up once you get there. Aussies are really nice and relaxed people so don't get stressed out:-) The accent will be very difficult for you in the beginning, in fact you may feel like they don't speak English at all (I often feel that way about the Indian accent too!). Just ask people to speak slowly and if you really don't get something make people write down or spell out words. Try to not spend all your time w/ other Indians. Befriending locals will increase the amount of verbal/non verbal communication you pick up.

Where in australia are u going? Depends where u are residing because its different in all states.

Im situated in Brisbane and its great here. It's actually getting really hot now so u might want to prepare yourself for the hot wheather. Language skills u dont really need because australia has alot of different nationalities here so u dont have to worry about that unless u feel u need too.
Being etiquette is really up to u. We have all different kinds of people on different levels here. So you have to judge that for yourself and decide how you want to be. I think its good to be yourself.

Anyways hope that helps. Good luck :)
