Going to Christchurch next week?

Hey guys. My parents and I are heading over to nz for 7 days (6 really) for a short holiday. It was only meant to be a quick 3 day weekend in ChCh but now It's a little bit longer so we thought we'd cram as much in as we could!!!

We arrive in Christchurch late on Tuesday night so we have all of Wednesday in ChCh. What is there to do?

So far I have: 1. That Antartic centre place
2. Have a quick look around the city (at the cathedral etc.)
3. Take a drive over to Lyttelton.

Anything else to do in Christchurch? We aren't really after too much, just to have a quick day in the city and get a general feel for it :)

The next day we're heading down to Queenstown. How far is that from Chch? About 6-7 hours?

And how far is Invercargill from Queenstown and then Invercargill back to Christchurch?

I know it sounds like a lot to pack into one week but we will manage haha.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Oh and also the night we arrive in Christchurch we're actually sleeping in a camper van lol. Were are some safe places to sleep like a caravan park or something? Cuz I know here on the Gold Coast people always get attacked in them. Where is safe to stay in Chch? Any ideas?
Additional Details
We're not really going to Invercargill for 'fun' per say. More as a joke lol (no offence residents of Invercargill). And possibly Bluff. IS there actually anything to do in Invercargill haha.

Christchurch is awesome! I love it there!

Okay, well when i went there we went to this mini putt that was glow in the dark. That was awesome!
And taking the tram around the city is cool. It may sound boring but the city is actually really nice.
And taking the gondola up to the Port Hills is really nice. It has a amazing view!
And if you were going to be there on a Saturday I would highly recommend the saturday morning market. It is really cool. And near there there is this alley-way type thing with all this really unique food carts (I recommend going there to get your food) - can't remember what it's called though.

And yeah...
If you do go to the Antarctica place, take the ride on the big truck thing. It's really fun!

Have fun!

One thing that's a good laugh is this Gondola thing. It takes you all the way up the port hills for a panorama of Christchurch. It's actually a bit of a joke but it' worth going on once partly for that very reason.

Oh yeah, and Invercargill's pretty dire. Shame you aren't going to the West Coast! See if you can make a day trip to Kaikoura to see the Dolphins.
And no, Camper-vanning is safe in NZ.

Hah I think you've covered the best things to do in Christchurch. It's a beautiful city, but I find it to be a bit tedious when I go there. There's also Akaroa (a small French settlement) and I think that's about an hour out of Christchurch.

Yes, Chch to Queenstown is about 6-7 hours. Invercargill to Chch is about 8 hours, and Queenstown to Invercargill is about 2-3 hours.

If you just go to a camping ground you should be safe in your camper van. There are floodlights at most of them and are fenced in.
