No we don't have Virgin in New Zealand. We only have Telecom and Vodafone - and Vodafone is the only company that have simcards. Although, 95% of teenagers are with Telecom, as you pay $10 a month and can send 2000 txts to any other Telecom phone. If you are going to be at boarding school here for 2 years I'd recommend buying a Telecom phone as you can buy the simpler phones at about $80-100.

I'm guessing you want a mobile so you can stay in touch with friends back home. Living in a boarding school you want get much interaction in the country your schooling if you are at a boarding school.

Based on these conclusions I suggest you use Skype or use MSN or Yahoo chat programs to stay in touch with friends.

It will save you more money than a mobile.

We don't have virgin.
We only have two mobile networks in New Zealand, Telecom and Vodafone.

Vodafone is extremely popular with teenagers. The person that said 95% of teenagers use Telecom is wrong! Telecom is expensive.
Vodafone has much better deals and you can call overseas for as little as 66 cents per minute!

Vodafone has sim cards only. They are $30 for a sim card. Which is a good deal and you could always sell it second hand in New Zealand before you go for a cheap price.

Cheers...

Nope, sorry we don't have Virgin but we do have Telecom and Vodafone.
I recommend Vodafone as the majority of young people are on Vodafone, and they do great plans that suit everybody.
Vodafone numbers begin with 021
I am currently on a plan called Supa Prepay on an add-on called Txt 2000 that lets me txt 2000 times a month and pay only 10 dollars.
The website is: www.vodafone.co.nz if you want to have a look.
Telecom is used by more older people generally, and is more useful for landlines and internet connections.
Telecom numbers begin with 027
The website is www.telecom.co.nz if you want to check it it.
Hope this helps!
