HELP!!! Emigrating to New Zealand?

Hi all,im moving to NZ in a few weeks!
A friend there has got me a job with him paying about $680 a week take home!
Auckland is where il be situated.

I just want to know if anyone has been there and give me advice on whether this is a decent single mans wage?
Will it be easier enough to live on by myself?
Im taking £4,000GBP in savings,is this enough to go with?
I just want as much info on the living style there ect ect as i can get!

I just need piece of mind has im going alone and not knowing what to expect,my friend says il be fine and find it a much better way to live then here in the u.k,which in all honesty, can it be worse the England?

Thanks all, your comments are vital for me

yeah its a good wage to get in your bank each week but you do know they have a way higher tax bracket than in the uk. You should be okay with living by yourself, though Auckland is one of the most expensive places to live in NZ and I dont know what the house prices are like up there as I live in Wellington.

I dont think its any better than England, most countries have there good points and their bad points. and it is personal opinion.

4 grand should be enough to get you there, though if your going to buy a car over there and drive that will take a bit of your money. they drive on the same road as us, but like to get right up your ****.

Food is more expensive than over in the UK.

Its really one of those countries you ll end up living there for years, or in 4 months decide you want to go back to your homeland.

Your brave for going that far by yourself, you dont just need to think about what its like over there but what happens if you dont like it there and want to go back to the UK once using up most of your £4000 to get set up?

I am English, Married to a Kiwi not knowing which country I prefer :P

But Good Luck and go Skiing down Mt Ruapehu when you get there as thats awesome *thumbs up*

You will be fine.....You are a single man with no dependents
There are lots of English people here in NZ so it should feel like a home away from home.... Next year Auckland will host a footy game with David Beckham's Galaxy team.....The Barmy Army have a hoot when they come here for the cricket...
Relax and enjoy all NZ has to offer....Just think your Christmas will be nice and warm instead of cold and dreary

the wage is pretty low for living in auckland the money you are bringing over wont go far by the time you get a decent vehicle and set yourself up just watch what part of auckland u move too as it is the polynesian capital of the world and some areas are pretty rough

as for auckland itself it is the most hated part of nz by the rest of the country you will become a JAFA just another ******* aucklander

as for lifestyle well its the same as anywhere in the world really has a nightlife has sporting fixtures has a concrete jungle and also some nice beaches etc just remember nz is a remote island and gets treated as such by the rest of world so dont expect too many big bands to come through

Here is a website to convert British Pounds into New Zealand Dollars:
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert amt=1&from=GBP&to=NZD&submit=Convert
As of today, it is 2.5976 NZ Dollars to 1 British Pound.
Since you already have a friend in NZ, ask him the questions you've asked here. Auckland is a lovely city. Just remember that "down under" the seasons are the opposite of what you're used to. As of now, they are heading into Spring and Summer, while our half of the world is heading into Fall and Winter. It can be rainy in NZ, but Auckland is on the North Island and doesn't get hit as hard as the South Island.
Good Luck with your new life in NZ. I have friends there who also transplanted from the UK many years ago and they love it.
