To all those that ask questions about emigrating/immigrating to/from the UK – I always write the following message:
Please ensure your reason for moving to another country is not because you believe that your own country is bad. Each country has up sides and down sides.
Yes, the UK is expensive, but other countries that are taxed lower don’t have the quality infrastructure that the UK has.
Yes, the climate is changeable, but that is why everything is green.
Yes, there are loads of foreigners, but if you move to another country, you’re doing just the same.
Think really, really carefully. I see loads of comments about a “honeymoon” period, whereby moving abroad has a novelty factor for a couple of months. But that can easily wear off, and it may be that you’re going to incur lots of expense instead of just thinking it through carefully first.
Just a thought! Good luck in whatever you do. |

I was born in nz but moved to aus when i was 4 and altho i see alot of people complimenting australia the attitude is out of whack if you get my meaning. Im use to the insults and the constant whinging but i dont know. I went to nz on holiday for the first time last dec and i didnt find it boring at all. I had a blast.
I think some people tend to go to another country hoping for some miracle to happen to them but id say its like a job. When you first work at a certain company your not expected to know everything. You work at it. And if you are going to move to another country at least do a little research rather than moan and groan about it.
I regret moving to aus even tho i didnt have a choice. Some day id love to live in ireland or scotland. |

Yep. My uncle. He's really homesick and actually misses the English weather. He says when he first went it was like being on holiday, but then it gets boring because it's not like a holiday anymore- You're actually living there so it's different.

My neighbour who comes from Manchester totally and absolutely loves New Zealand. He, his wife and family of four kids have been here for about six years. The children range in ages from 9 thru to 17 and I have chatted to them several times about how they enjoy there new country. The eldest boy told me once that he could never see himself back in the UK, well not permanently and in a few weeks the entire family will become New Zealand citizens!
Many summer nights have been spent enjoying a BBQ with this family and they have successfully and easily integrated into the 'kiwi' way of life.
They certainly do miss there families back in the UK however thats about all they miss. My neighbours wife said that the quality of life here in New Zealand is unsurpassed.
I suspect those who move here and find things not to there liking will no doubt move on. It certainly is a major change to move half way across the world. Those who do forge ahead and make New Zealand there permanent home have indeed captured and embraced the true essence of being 'KIWI'. To those whose plate needs refreshing - I'm certain our neighbours across the ditch in the "West Island" will only be too happy to receive you with all the hospitality of a dingo on heat. |

Yes we moved here a year ago. Great for kids, but personally if it was just me and was single I'd have opted for Australia. Other than the great outdoors, the towns and cities are unattractive and don't have real character. I find the people quite bland too. Oz has a better climate, better living standard but the heat and poisonous snakes and spiders put me off as a place to raise my kids. Maybe when they are older we'll head over there. I like it here but not crazy about it, except in summer (which is short) when the lifestyle is fantastic. |
