I don't think there are any near the airport, they are all basically downtown. That's where you want to be anyway. The airport area is nowhere near walking distance to downtown and an expensive cab ride when the pubs close. I stayed in a few of them there and they are all pretty comparable in terms of quality. The one right in Cathedral Square gets a bad rap but if you get a room in the back (off the noisy square) it is fine. You can easily get a City Bus from the airport to the Square.
don't worry about the hostel being the closest to the airport. There are shuttle busses to take you into the city. I just got back from a 2 month trip to Australia and New Zealand where I stayed in many many different hostels. My 2 favorites were the Base Backpackers I stayed in. They have a special floor called The Sanctuary, which is for girls only, which I loved.
