How difficult is the track around Abel Tasman National Park?

I'm going to Abel Tasman National Park in 3 weeks and am looking to walk from Wainui Bay to Separation Point and back on one day, then from Bark Bay to Anchorage on another.

How difficult are these walks? Are there lots of steep inclines?

I'm not terribly fit but want to get the most out of my visit there. I will also be travelling with my husband during this time. Any advice or tips would be most appreciative!

It's classed as an easy trek. Enjoyable walking with great views all the way. Very well maintained with hand rails in some parts where there is a couple steps.

There are plenty of Aqua Taxis around if you get tired or what to walk one way and taxi back the other - all you need to do is head to the beach and flag one down. I'm serious! One of the companies - http://www.aquataxi.co.nz

Also check out Awaroa Lodge at the quiet northern end of Abel Tasman National Park - the food is to die for! http://www.awaroalodge.co.nz/

It's an easy walk. I would suggest that you increased your fitness level though, otherwise you could be spending time worrying about your health rather than enjoying the scenery.

Good choice! I have done the trek 3 times, with my 2 children aged 10 and 14 ys respectively.I camped out for 3 nights,Yes there are some steep parts, but not hard. You can relax on the beaches on the trek. But time the tides right.Or you might get trapped for a few xtra hours.

its not to hard but glorius views

Hi - this is a great walk. I did it a few years ago and was moderately fit and not experienced at tramping. It is steep in places but you can survive. We found the indicative times for each section of walk very genrous and we easily covered the distances. Best to start your walking early as possible in the mornings to allow yourself plenty of time to return and to stay clear of the busiest time on the track each day late morning to mid afternoon.

It's along time ago that I did this and I don't remember it being difficult. It was glorious.
