Hmm, well you could keep an eye on http://grabaseat.co.nz for daily specials you might just get lucky and find a cheap flight to Queenstown, sometimes they can be as cheap as $39 one way.
Good luck! :-) |

If the buses and shuttles don't leave at a suitable time you would have no choice but to fly - grab a seat would be cheapest but are not always available and are snapped up quickly. Have you looked at some of the special tourist buses that travel around the country where you can get on and off such as naked bus, http://www.nakedbus.com/ or kiwi experience - http://www.KiwiExperience.com
Have a look at http://www.holidays-in-newzealand.com/new-zealand-bus-travel.html
for further information on buses.
Unless you can find someone who is travelling through to Queenstown who would give you a ride - (I would suggest you offered to contribute to petrol at $2.10 a litre now) , which is unlikely with 5 of you, I think you would either have to pay more for a flight, or allow more time to get there by bus. |

No, you're right. There's no buses at that time of day.
Either go Sunday, or make an arrangement with SuperShuttle in Chch to take you to Tekapo, and ask them for a Queenstown SS wagon to meet you there to take you on the Qt.
Weather permitting, you may be able to charter a 6 seater plane. This would be the easiest way, but could be expensive.
SuperShuttle and the many small air taxis can be googled.
You may find that AirNZ will be able to get you there too, so google them as well. |
