Well, I don't blame you for wanting to get out. I'm a NZer who worked in Rhodesia for a year. My wife and I got out when the **** hit the fan. I've got a nasty feeling that when Mandela and Tutu are gone, S.A. will go down the drain like Zimbabwe, and I hope I'm wrong. S.A. needs all the skilled people it can keep, but I'd do the same as you in your position. Welcome to NZ my friend. |

My opinion .. well is my first time I read about a situation like that and I never figured, but is not damned because are a lot of situations in this world, that can't figure all the combinations possibles so I wish you a lot of luck in all you want to do and you could send a postal card from there !!!
A good day and a good life. |

I have no idea what tothebat is talking about! It's the first I've heard of any of the things he has mentioned.
There are a number of South Africans in the area in which I live but I can honestly tell you that I have never heard a single comment from anyone criticizing them or complaining about them coming here. Most criticism NZers make is about immigrants who can't speak English. They become very irritated when they have to go to a doctor, or the call centre phone of a large establishment - and communication is impossible because of the language barrier.
This does not happen with South Africans who speak English as well if not better than New Zealanders.
Like any other person, whatever the race, there are those whose personalities win them friends, and those who may be arrogant or complaining and therefore are not popular.
I wish you all the best with your move and I am sure you will love it here as do all the South Africans I have met. |

I have met many South African immigrants, many of them through going to church. I find them very friendly and approachable and they love being in New Zealand where they feel a lot safer driving, walking etc. I think you will enjoy NZ. Welcome in advance! |

I am not aware that a lot of South Africans are immigrating to our country.
My personal feelings on anybody immigrating to any country is: be aware of where you are going, read and learn all about it before taking the step. Once in that country, do not try to change it to what you have just come from - you must have chosen that particular country for a reason so learn to live within that place with an open mind and heart. Work hard and give back what you get from it.
Happy living to you and welcome to God Zone. |

I guess, if you are coming to NZ for the right reasons; i.e NZ needs highly qualified and skilled workers; and have a job to go to in NZ; then that's fantastic! |

I have met quite a few and have no problem whatsoever. I think that in general people view South Africans as similar to us here in New Zealand on a lot of matters and how they see things..........
Happy to have you on board! |
