As a local, I've never heard it called Dunnos.
I've heard the students at the University refer to it as Dunners, but students who live in Dunedin in general call it the same as everybody else does ---done eden

Demosthenes
Dunedin is pronounced "Dun - ee - din"
- Dun - rhymes with sun
- ee rhymes with tree
- din rhymes with win

It has the same etymological roots as Edinburgh, with Dun being derived from the Gaelic for for fort.
