See NZ’s coming to Australia - http://www.nzembassy.com/topic.cfm?c=18&l=60&s=nz

You can live and work between NZ and Australia if you have CITIZENSHIP of one of these countries, NOT just a 'residence' - you may still need a visa.

All info is in the above link.

Good Luck

Edit - to the user 'tothebatmobilerobin'
- I am referring to if this person has NOT been in NZ, or born there, in other words they recently only moved to NZ and have only got temporay residence at the mo - not a full NZ citizenship. That's why they 'may' still need a visa to come over. You would have worked this out if you saw the users other questions!

If you are a full NZ or Australian citizen you can come and go between the two country's as you like with out any visa.

Edit - as to user 'zee_prime's' comments - he is incorrect - Australian and New Zealanders both need passports to travel between each country.

If you have NZ citizen you get a Special Category Visa(SCV) every time you go there and it gives you almost the same rights as an Aussie except a 2 year standown period for benefits but if you are only a resident you dont get anything. You will need a visa to stay in Aussie

Closer Economic Relations etc etc only really work for NZ Citizens going to Australia, not permanent residents.

As A NZ Resident, and not a NZ Citizen you would firstly need to check whether you need a visa or an ETA for Australia. Before you leave you would also need to check whether you have a reentry/multiple entry visa for NZ. This is just a little thing but you will need it, even as a permanent resident. Oh, and you do need a passport returning to NZ. Everyone, including NZ citizen require one to come through the border.

See your local travel agent House of Travel and they can book your trip and give you all the necessary information you need. Have a great trip!

Until a few years back NZers and Australians could travel between the two countries both ways without a passport. Australian citizens still don't need a passport to come to NZ, but NZers need a passport to go to Oz, although why anybody would want to go there is a mystery. Citizens of other countries resident in NZ also need a visa to go to Oz, and citizens of other countries resident in Oz need passports and in some cases visas to come to NZ.

TLT
just like travel between any other country. You still have to show your passport at customs.

Ive lived in Aussie and am currently in NZ - you dont need a work permit or work visa informally to be employed in Aussie if you are a NZ citizen and resident. Most Aussie employers will wonder what drugs you are taking if you show them a visa (as will customs Australia.). I dont think K Bear has even been out of NZ with an answer like the one they have submitted.
