You don't say how 'young' you are.

Take a look at http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=cape+tribulation+tours&meta= - plenty of options from $99 onwards.

Another option is if you are staying at backpackers and you meet some people that are doing the same trip and they have their own car, ask if you can tag along, and share some petrol costs.
