BUT under the Consumer Guarantees Act, the Guarantee offered by a manufacturer or retailer is nonsense unless it offers you greater protection than you are entitled to under the Act.
The Act states that any information conveyed in advertising, either printed or spoken, forms part of your contract.
All goods must be suitable for the purpose for which they are intended.
All goods shall be serviceable and functional. In other words, they must not breakdown nor stop working within a reasonable time, the time is probably determined by the average life of the product taking into account similar brands of the same item at similar prices.
People like The Warehouse and others, try to back out on CDs and DVDs, saying you can't return them. But if they don't work in your player, and you were led to believe they would, you are entitled to an exchange or a refund.
Items purchased for a business are not covered by the Act. You make your own agreements with the seller.
And note, your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer or the distributor or the carrying company. The seller must make good any items that fail.
Note that as far as a factory, office, shop or restaurant goes, you are not permitted to allow your staff or your customers to hear any music except from a radio if you have not paid your copyright fee to the Australasian Performing Rights Association.
