Well it depends on where you fly from and to. But if you fly from a major city and depending on when you book and when you travel you could pay under $100 one way. You woulnd't be looking at a flight any longer than 2 hours. There are 2 major domestic carries
Air New Zealand and QANTAS. I recommend you visit both airlines sites and compare fares. I've found in the past you generally get a better fare with QANTAS but Air New Zealand has better frequency and flys to more cities within NZ.

Normally it's only about 1 and a half hours and should cost (NZ$) around $200-$400 depending on where you're flying to, and the time you're travelling.

You can also drive between Islands.
A regular ferry from Wellington to Picton will cost about $30 per person and about $150 per vehicle. The trip takes about 3hrs but is very scenic.

When I flew from Christchurch to Auckland (in just under 2 hrs - if I remember correctly!) it cost me NZ$87, but that was because I booked it 2 weeks in advance. Generally the closer you book to the time you want to fly, the more expensive it is (this is what I found anyway)

It depends when, where, and how far you book in advance. Check out zuji.co.nz for some good prices. If you fly into bigger cities like Christchurch instead of Queenstown you'll get a better rate.
