I have lived in various places in New Zealand. I grew up in Dunedin. There we could expect to get snow maybe twice a year, and by midday it was generally gone. I lived in Auckland for maybe 13 years and it never snowed. In Wellington where I lived for perhaps 15 years on and off I only remember snow once. I have now lived in Blenheim for 8 years and once in that time saw sleet, but never snow. Christchurch gets an occasional dusting.
PS I also remember that one year (1958???) Queenstown, which is a mountain town, by a lake, got snow at Christmas when it is normally very hot. |

In the deep south, quite a lot. In the north, none at all. Auckland has never seen snow. |

In most places, very, very little if any. I lived for a while in a town called Tokoroa in the central North Island. It didnt snow the entire time I lived there. Frost yes, but never snow. |

It doesn't snow in the North Island. In the South, like waaay down, like Dunedin, it does (in the winter of course lol). |

Usually (note - usually) it doesn't snow much away from the mountains.
But occasionally some places, even right down to sea level may get snow.
In Queenstown it is said that you can get snow in any month that has 28 or more days.
So, we have a usual weather pattern of very little snow away from the mountains.
Then we can get unusual weather at any time too. |
