Well, I can think of a few ways involving a sledgehammer, but I doubt that's what you mean. ; )
On all makes and models you can usually shut it down by holding down the main power button for about 5-10 seconds.
After you decide to turn it back on, it will probably say something about how it was shut down improperly. choose the option that says 'Start (name of processor here) Normally'.
After that you should be fine.
