The Mercer 2008 Quality of Living survey ranked Auckland fifth best city in the world to live in. So it gets a tick from the experts. I enjoy living here and if you get home sick there are plenty of mexican restaurants. My friends and I enjoy going to the Mexican Cafe on Victoria Street. |

Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand with one third of the total population. In, you find everything you expect a city that size to have. With its temperate climate it is fun to take advantage of water sports and outdoor activities available in and spread around Auckland.
We came five years ago and still love every moment of it. If you are interested to get an impression of West Auckland, which is about 45 min drive from Auckland central have a look here. http://www.new-zealand-vacations-in-west-auckland.com
Enjoy :) |

Well, Here is a few observations you might consider.
The first is obvious - New Zealand is extremely remote and you will most certainly miss your family.
Here is something I remember about New Zealand that you may not be aware of. To me, the food there was very bland. During my visit there I ate gourmet food at times and even though the food looked wonderful, to me it was lacking in flavor. Are you prepared to be a chef in a country where people are accustomed to eating what we might consider to be bland foods. I saw no Mexican dishes during my stay in NZ. Pizza was awful! It seemed to me that there was very little spice to their food. The main staples there were fish, lamb and venison. Be careful making a life changing decision. Do all your homework.
On the bright side, New Zealand is a gorgeous country AND the people there are very nice. Good luck in whatever you decide! :) Watch out for earthquakes! |

It's very nice and the people are friendly. The weather in Auckland is temperate and it has the qualities of any city its size. The markets are filled with just about everything you could want, although you might have to import a few specialty ingredients, and adjust spices for local taste.
For a glimpse of some of their comedy, go on youtube and look up Billy T James. |

Auckland is great - dont go to South Island if you are a native Mexican - you will be harrassed - Deep southerners are slightly ignorant -
Queenstown is great - run by foreigners. NZ is alot like the USA - we have our own brand of racism despite the countless many who come on here in denial (most of them white NZders or whinging Poms (English)-
The Maori/Polynesian/NZ Arab are like the Mexican, Native American and African American who get a bad wrap in the USA. |
