I'm leaving nz where to?

I'm leaving nz where to?
i moved here not long ago. While a majority of the people are lovely and the scenery is beautiful i find this country very violent and depressing. this country has the same problems that we wanted to leave behind in england. Everyday there is a murder here. Gangs are everywhere, drugs are in the schools. I have recently found out that my son was pressured into drugs by school mates. teen suicide is awful here. you only get one life and im not sure if i want to sepnd it in nz. im thinking of moving to aus. It sounds happier there. what do you think?

Are you Serious???? I live in NZ and its awesome..in fact its a little small and on the slow side actually.. One murder a day??..Hows this theres around 400 murders a month in South Africa..some say thats a good place to live..

Gangs and drugs are everywhere, its asking a lot to expect these things not to exist - especially in a modern Western society...But being a teen myself I gotta say us Kiwis are pretty liberal with alcohol and rec drugs....

But hey - its your choice...I went to LA earlier in the year for a month...sweet place huh..I think that would be a great place to live..Life is lived at 100 miles an hour there..

Nikita
Are you by any chance living in South Auckland? Lots of murders and drug problems there. We moved from England to the North Shore where it is a lot safer but locals do worry about the increasing crime. If I had my way we'd also be in Australia - I find the people here in NZ either extremely friendly or backward, over-opinionated and rude/unfriendly. Sorry Kiwi's I know its not all of you.

Go to the South Island - less crime and alot more relaxed lifestyle.
Take a trip to Nelson and you see what I mean! Much much more nicer there.

everyday ther is a murder in the country? Where as in the Uk it would of been every hour? Gangs are not everywhere only in specific parts of the larger cities, i lived in west auckland for 3 years and 15 years in rural NZ and never noticed a gang presence or crime that affected me. Australia (where i live now) has just as much if not more crime than NZ and gangs aren't as noticeable as the cultural groups causing trouble, there are fatal car accidents daily all over the country. What area are you living in? cities are the same world wide and drugs are in every city move somewhere a little bit smaller put your son in a decent school stay away from south auckland

Seems you are slightly dissatisfied with this great country. It is not the country that's at fault, it's the people in it and some of them - recent arrivals - are not prepared to live our way but want to bring and keep their bad baggage here.
I hope you find what you are seeking but I doubt that West Island (Orstrayleea) will provide it for you. Try Zimbabwe for a different life.

I agree with K Bear, Nikita and Amy. I live in rural Southland and I used to live in England. Down here we haven't got any of your serious problems. I've lived in Aussie too, and I don't believe NZ is a more violent society. Do you by any chance live in Auckland? Down here some kids smoke a little dope, there's some petty thieving from rural properties, but P, serious assaults, home invasions aren't a problem, and gang violence is confined to one small part of Invercargill.

Having been to Australia frequently - twice so far this year and with three siblings who live there, I can assure you if you read their newspapers you would swear you were reading New Zealand newspapers.

Depending on where you go, I think you would find it very similar. Like here, and England, there are good areas and bad areas.Australia is a lot more Americanised than New Zealand. I suggest you go and have a very good look and even rent and live a few weeks before making another big move.

Personally, I don't think you will find that aspect of life very different. You may be better off moving within this country.I have friends who had similar problems with their children in Australia.

Sadly, we just have to try and teach our children how to cope in a situation such as your son, without giving in.Try and keep your son really busy with activities that means he has the right sort of friends. Not easy I know.

Some remote tropical island with other problems, is your only likely escape in this day and age sadly.

yep run away then.
every country has crime, so what is the point.
there is not a murder every day for a start, stop worrying and move to a "safer" place.
your son wasn't pressured into drugs, he just want to experiment like most people do. he just told you that he was pressured because he is weak. probably gets it from you. weak people run away from problems, strong people try to solve problems and make the place better for every one.
go on give me a bad rating because i am honest.

I have lived in the South Island for most of my life....i had around 6months living in Pukekohe ( south auckland) and found that a little interesting....I did not feel as safe as i do in the south island. I worked in a petrol station with lots of gang members visiting and got freaked out a few times by that ( or when they would have wires laid across their laps and were unable to stop the engine eg hotwired, or used a screwdriver to open the petrol cap eg no key!!!
Living in the south island is completely different...maybe you should try christchurch or another place in the south

Those problems exist in every country in the world. Gangs are present in all countries..nothing new and something that u wont be able to avoid no matter where u choose to go. I don't agree that there is a murder everyday in NZ. Teach your son about the consequences of drugs and then hopefully he will be wise enough to refuse.

Got to the south island if your in the north because the north is just so ****.

Besides everywhere in the world has this, but NZ is way lower than some places check out for Australia for example.
