Take a look at cheap student accommodation flats in Auckland central, close to Auckland University complex.
http://www.princeton.co.nz/

also:
Fully-catered Halls of Residence - the ideal starting point for recent school leavers.
Self-catered university-managed apartments - to provide an independent lifestyle for more mature students.
Private accommodation - home-stay and private flatting options are also available.

Best to let the school make the arrangement for you. They would probably have one arranged for you within walking distant. That way you save time and money. Alternatively, go to the NZ website for help or to the nearest library for latest NZ newspapers. The Kiwis are generally very helpful people.
Good luck.

Renting apartments in Auckland usually cost around $250 - $500 per week (but you can obtain a good one for about $300 - $350). Most apartments are furnished and Auckland is a safe city.
