If I gained a New Zealand passport & residency, Would I also have right to live and work in Australia?

Hey Guys,

Im British, and have got the chance to go and work in New Zealand with a well established company. I can get either the 12 or 23 month visa, and with guaranteed work, I have been told that it would take just 3 years for me to gain New Zealand nationality & Passport..

I would quite like to live in NZ and gain nationality/passport (which i have been told will take roughly 3 years) so I can retire there when im much older (I'm currently 27) as I have visited NZ for 3 months travelling when I was younger...Also on this travels I used my years work visa for Australia & liked Australia alot..

So my question is once I have spent 3 years working in NZ and gained NZ nationality/Passport would I have right like I have been told all Kiwis do, to go live and work in Australia ?

yes its what many from the UK and south africa do, they goto nz for 3 years so they can get to australia

if all the kiwis your meeting are telling you it can be done, and here your being told here, and you still want confirmation try the nz imagration website i forget what its called, ministry of imigration i think

Yes friend, the answer is absolutely you have the right to live in australia once u gain your kiwi passport. You will be just same as the kiwis here,
Regards

Pojken
Australia and New Zealand do have agreements of free movement among its citizens like within the EU. But you have to wait until you become a citizen there and I think it's a little more than 3 years. I think it's 5 years of residence required to become a citizen.
I'm not 100% sure though

Yes you would, Im NZ and I have come back from 6months in Australia and was interested in joining the RAAF so researched about citizenship. As a NZ citizen you can work and live in Aus as though you were a citizen, and to gain residency you only have to say you plan to spend more than 6 months in Australia. And I believe after living for 2 years in Aus you can get Australian Citizenship
