You could seriously find somewhere better to live than Invercargill... |

Yeah, without knowing your work or family history, it's quite likely you'll get a job easily in Invercargill.
At present it's going through a Boom with the dairy industry utilising every blade of grass to convert to dollars, and next year will be even better, so go for it.
Good luck.

Invercargill is the southern most city in NZ and when I was there a few years ago ( I was on a teaching practice for about 5 weeks) it was the fastest declining city in Australasia.
Now there has a been a bit of a resurgance in the area ( Southland) with Dairy farming among other things being very bouyant....however I would say the weather is not plesant..while I was there in winter, it still does not rate weather-wise.....its a bit isolated from other places as its at the end of the country.....however there would be a call for certain people as they would find it hard to fill positions there ( hard to get people to move there)....so you might find it ok to start with....not my favourite city in the world I have to say. |

I've neverr been there. It sounds like a really nice place. I live in Nelson (sexy place to be, lol) on the top of the north island.
Great decision to move to nz though.
I left austrlaia for here and have never looked back |

Finding employment is generally not a problem in NZ these days. Accounting and banking happens everywhere, and also in Invercargill. There is one factor you may want to consider though: NZ gets less cosmopolitan the further south you go. If you are not caucasian European, you may find yourself being pretty "rare" in appearance if I may say so, and some rural attitudes of long standing may make you a bit of an outsider there.
If that's not a problem for you, Invercargill is certainly a very pleasant place to be, with vast stretches of untouched nature around it and a slow, rural pace of life.
Don't be fooled by the appearance of it on maps: The place is essentially just an elegant village, with few people in it, just stretched out. Cities here are small. |

Invercargill has gone from being the fastest-declining population centre in Australasia to a rapidly-growing one. This is due partly to an oil boom, which is just starting, because the Great South Basin (the area of Southern Ocean south of Stewart Island) is about to be explored for oil. Partly because a lot of farms down here are being converted from sheep to dairy, which is very lucrative. And partly because In'gill has a very able and energetic mayor; Tim Shadbolt. Look at www.venturesouthland.co.nz. There are plenty of jobs in the Invercargill area. Property prices are among the lowest in NZ too. |
