if you are looking to rent these are current rental properties available in Auckland
I survive easily and comfortably on 35,000ish (not working fulltime) living in christchurch which is cheaper than auckland but not to the extent that you'd be suffering on 60,000. you should be perfectly fine |

Honestly, it depends what the job is. It might be a lot, or it might not be a lot at all.
For a single person renting a property (shared) then it is fine. However, as a comparison to what is average for that particular job, then it is hard to tell. Unfortunately computer related salaries do vary considerably. |

Obviously whether or not this is a good salary depends on what the job is for. To give you an idea, $60k is the top salary a teacher or a nurse would probably get (apart from higher management positions). I'm a second year lawyer and on $50,000. the average NZer salary is around $30-40k. So, yes for most jobs $60k is pretty good. For a software job it would be reasonable if you are junior to intermediate.
Of course as already raised, Auckland is the priciest of kiwi cities to live in. However, you won't find rent a problem on that salary. For a room in a flat you're looking at around $150-200 at least, and for a flat by yourself probably $300 a week at least. Definitely factor in petrol, Aucklander's love their cars. However, there are buses etc. |

This is a very average salary. You would live comfortably, depending on how big your family was. If it is just you , life should be very comfortable.
It also depends on where you are living. The accommodation costs will vary considerably. If you are in Auckland $60,000 is not a lot to get by on with high rents and travel costs.
Auckland is an expensive city to live in.With petrol now at $2.12 a litre you would want to be as near to your work as possible.

Have a look at the living calculator here to get an idea. |

60k is pretty average for NZ, however Auckland is very expensive if your looking to buy property, you would need to be earning a fair bit more to support a mortgage there. |

Yes, it is a decent salary to survive on. Rent for a good 2 bedroom unit is about $NZD300/week if you don't live right in the inner city. |
