They are brilliant! Food is good and the alcohol free on the international service (domestic in NZ you pay for the wine and spirits) regardless of class.
I am not entirely sure what you mean regarding automatically being on pacific premium economy. Pacific Class is the standard economy class (but with 33/34inch pitch so very comfortable) or Premium Economy is the next step up from Economy but below business.
Also, just to clarify your luggage. 25kg is incorrect. You get 2 pieces of luggage and each bag can be up to 23kg - flights from and through the US operate on a piece system rather than most via Europe and Asia which is a maximum amount of only 20kg. Obviously you get your cabin luggage on top of the 2 pieces at 23kg.
Personally, i love flying Air NZ.
James, you are right that compared to Singapore or the Asian airlines they aren't as good. However the flights from LAX and SFO (and their other long haul flights to Asia) do have personal seatback in flight entertainment. When the SFO flight was first introduced there wasn't but now, there most certainly is :)
Actually I will correct myself there, the flights that go from LAX to AKL via the Pacific Islands (Rarotonga, Nadi, Noumea) don't have personal on demand entertainment. Just the direct ones. Sorry! |

IMHO Air N.Z. is one of the best. All the airlines are having trouble making a profit because of the high cost of fuel. AA, for example has stopped serving food on flights within the U.S. You can, however, buy food in the airport before departure, or bring a picnic lunch from home. Some flights offer snack meals "for sale" aboard the flight, if pre-ordered before departure. Check these features before you begin your long flight to Auckland. |

I have flown extensively with Air New Zealand, & I have never had a bad experience with them. food is good, personal service by flight crew is Excellent - even on low fare rates. I give them 11 out of 10, go the Kiwis!! |

Air New Zealand pacific premium economy gets the same food as Business Class which is probably the best airline food I've ever had. Nice wine selection too. Website below gives more information on what to expect. |

Food is good however planes are cramped even on premium economy. Most everything else is great (luggage space is minimal but if flying out of USA - 25Kg per customer). |

Yes ,Air New Zealand is a good airline to fly with. The food is always very nice and you are offered two options when they serve the meals. You will not need to buy food as suggested. You will be very well feed, water is brought through at regular intervals, and the wines and bar service are excellent. There is a HUGE difference between Air New Zealand and American airlines I can assure you!
Have a great trip! |

It's a good airline, but I don't get the big deal, it's 12 hours or so on a plane? All you really want is safety. |

The only long-haul flight that I have had with AirNZ is to Christchurch-Tokyo and return in economy. As others have said, you get two food options and the food was delicious and the cabin crew were awesome and very bubbly. They had on-demand entertainment much like other airlines and they will be introducing it to trans-tasman flights soon.
I can confidently recommend Air NZ! |
