Is Auckland a dead city compared to Wellington?

I am just curious about opinions. I have lived in Auckland for 2.5 years and I haven't really liked it all that much. It seems to lack passion, people are shallow, and up themselves. This may sound harsh and I dont' mean to imply ALL Aucklanders are like such. I like in the CBD, so that could be a factor.

I went to Wellington for the first time last weekend and loved it. It changed my opinion of NZ drastically. People were nice, genuine, and it was a vbibrant city. I have heard, though, that Auckland was (in the 80s) similar to the way Wellington is now. Any comments?

I've never been to Auckland. But i've been to Wellington and I love it too.

I've found the further south you go the more genuine the people are. That's why I live in Dunedin haha!!

I don't have any plans to go to Auckland anytime soon. I have lived in Sydney which I imagine would be a larger version of Auckland.

I think if you aren't enjoying Auckland then think about moving some where else. I'm moving to Wellington next year!!

=] Good luck!

Hi Carmella. Auckland has the biggest CBD in New Zealand, people commute from all over NZ to work in it's town. Over the years Auckland city has become far too serious and overly commercialized, a lot of Aucklander's don't like going into the CBD because the town is catered more so, for the tourist and over seas investors. Thank you for not judging all Aucklander's on our CBD. Auckland has the largest Polynesian population in the world, this is why I love living here because of it's cultural vibrancy and it's cultural diversities. You wouldn't get that anywhere else in NZ. I use to work in Social Services, and I've worked all over Auckland. I can honestly say that I am proud of Auckland, people here are genuinely caring and community minded.

Boonoora dear - love the sheep jokes. Your such a Dag!!! Actually, your the whole sheep's a*r*s*e* Stick in your own back yard and stop rubbishing mine!

I don't think it's dead compared to wellington, I just think the people are much more pretentious, and I definitely agree Aucklanders can be shallow!

boy in somewhere
I have been to Auckland few times this year. Compare to small city like Wellington, i choose Wellington. Auckland is too big and it is not a good news for people who hate travel alot to and from city. In my opinion, both Aucklander and Wellingtonion are friendly. ( if compare to ppl in New plymouth and Wanganui) So, tourists, both Auckland and Wellington are good place to live and stay.

I LOVE Wellington. It was a nice, comfortable place. It just had a nice aura to it. When I visited Auckland however, I got a different vibe. I don't really like Auckland, but I was only there for like two days. Personally, I think Wellington is a better, nicer city. No offense to Aucklanders, of course.

well my thoughts exactly, I think both places are the same just a matter of time before they get worse, now you wonder why they come to Australia to live, we are friendlier.
