It is a big city, but a spread out city also. Lots of traffic and poor public transport.
If you like big cities like me, you'll love it. But otherwise, it could take some adjusting.
Aucklanders are frequently referred to as JAFAs by the rest of NZ. It stands for Just Another F...... Aucklander, as the city makes up 1/3 of NZ's population and tends demand all the attention.
House prices are expensive, so many people live out of the city, and have to deal with the traffic and lack of public transportation.
Trying to go on Holiday over a long weekend is difficult - the motorways come to a stand still. |

It depends on what you like.
Auckland is/has:
* mad traffic
* lots of people of different cultures (and also then their driving habits, shops, food, language)
* really bad public transport (hence the mad traffic)
* 1.5 million people
* very spread out
* the major NZ city for work etc
* major art exhibitions and music concerts more likely to be held in Auckland - there's lots going on
* easy access to good beaches, day walks, 4 hours to the ski field
* the most hectic city in NZ (but that's not saying much)
* cost of living is quite high
* the loathing of people from other cities/towns... Auckland has the 'Big Smoke' complex
* lots of little communities - some old and funky, some modern
* however, all in all a good city to live in |

Totally depends on what you like and what you're used to. I'm originally from Los Angeles, so Auckland's traffic and supposed pollution are almost unnoticeable to me! lol- I lived in Christchurch for a wee bit and absolutely loved it. |

It depends on your definition of good. Auckland can be seen as a rather expensive place to live as the cost of living there is rather high. There are plenty of jobs there if you are keen to work and want to work badly enough, and there is plenty to do in Auckland which can keep you busy which is a good thing. It really depends on what you are looking for. |
