Ok, so i live in Australia NSW, so i know that New Zealanders are ahead of us with time, therefor they welcome a new day before us. But is New Zealand the first country to welcome a new day in the World, or is there another country that will see in a new day before New Zealand?
Just a random thought i had whilst in the shower lol!
New Zealand time zones range between UTC+10 and UTC+12.
UTC +12 is as far as it goes. Beyond that it's still the day before.

Technically, there may be other geographies belonging to other countries that are closer to the date line or may even straddle it (Kiribati for example). In the northern hemisphere, scattered arctic islands belonging to Russia are closer to the date line than the NZ mainland (Chatham Islands is part of New Zealand so this pushes NZ closer to the dateline).
On the other hand, the first city in the world to see the sun of the new day is Gisborne in New Zealand. The first major world city is Auckland - so I guess NZ can lay some claim to the notion.

There are other smaller Pacific Islands that see in the new day first, but NZ is the first Industral country to see in the new day.

I think the Chatham Islands are first. It has a very small population, but after that the east cape of the North Island gets the first sunlight. The city that claims to welcome in the new year first every year is Gisborne (largest town on the east cape).

Yup thats true!!! lol

According to Wiki answers its a place called Tonga, but NZ is the first large country to witness the new day.
