Is Wellington weather really as bad as they say?

I live in Auckland and considering moving down there but am worried as I've heard the weather is even worst down there than in Auckland. The truth please anyone who has lived there long term????

From any stats that i've seen it has the worst weather of all the main centres in NZ (Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch) its average summer temperature barely scraps 20 degrees at 20.3 degrees and its definetly cooler than Auckland in winter too (North adn south magazine published a great article about every city in NZ February 2008 edition. Just goes to show people cannot stereotype the north island as being warmer than the south island cause Christchurch kicks Wellingtons butt int the warmness stakes over summer, not to mention less rainfall.

You get cold winds and rain blowing across Wellington from the harbour. It can get very nasty, but wellington also has lovely weather, and wellington on a nice day is a beautiful city

Anna.
I have lived in Wellington for fifteen years
The weather can be unpredictable but you can't beat wellington on a good day.

Oddballs - the fukcs wrong with you mate

Hey, I live in Australia at the moment (not by choice haha) but I used to live in New Zealand and I lived all around the North Island. I've never been in Wellington long term but when ever I'm there the weather is normally like a rainy day in Auckland but it can be nice too. I'd have to say though, people wouldn't go on about it's weather if there was no truth behind it. And just randomly, NZ has some beautiful places! Just look around there's probably a place you'll fall in love with. :)

Yes! In the seven years that I lived in Wellington, I only wore shorts and a singlet once. Too bloody cold if you ask me, what with the cold wind and rain. Moreover, the narrow hilly streets also take some getting used too.

Murphy
Cold, windy, and full of odd balls. Nice city.

OFFS...it is Wellington, and you are in Auckland. It's not the moon, or Mars. You could watch any one of the many weather forecasts on any one of the TV channels available.

If you are too stupid to understand Toni Marsh then you are probably too stupid to drive the Dessert Road, so just stay where you are.
