June is winter so go December, much nicer!

daisyrose
depends if your summer or winter person ....but its a a1 place to visit

It's cold in June, but May in Christchurch is possibly the most beautiful New Zealand experience, Hagley Park, all the trees changing colours, it is spectacular.
December, summer time, you can see everything at its most beautiful, all the colours, all the people are out of hibernation, it's the best time to travel around the South Island. But don't go in December go in January

Personally I would choose June/Winter but it depends what your into. If you enjoy skiing go around late June or July, it is absolutely wonderful in the mountains. But if you enjoy stuff like the beach or have family here, December is better.

I just got back from NZ and its a wicked country to visit anytime of year. I jus enjoyed xmas there and it was awesome. But I have to say also being a kiwi but looking at it from a tourists point of view, June is the best time to visit. You have snow on the mountains and all the ski resorts are in full swing. There is less of a rush around this time because there isnt anybody going home to NZ for xmas and there isnt xmas shoppers hampering your holiday

chris
dont come in june, come in summer which is december.cheers

Disturbed
Go around December.
It's supposed to be "summer" although, sometimes "summer" is a let down in New Zealand. But our summer sure beats our winter, bitter and cold winds from the Antartic =

todsbod66
June is winter, December is summer. Depends if you want to ski or surf

In December it's Summer o I think that's better. June isn't so good caus it's in winter so it will just be windy and raining, and you can't go out to do as many things.

Perseid
Well- where are you from?
I went to New Zealand in July and I knew it would be their winter. I didn't think it would be THAT cold though (it was always between 30-40 degrees). It all depends on what kind of temperatures you like. If you like cold- go in June. If you like warm- go in December.

anythingwilldo
It depends on what you intend to do once you arrive.

I love going over in winter which is a lot cheaper for air fares. Both winters I went the skies were beautiful and blue, the air was crisp and the snow was pristine. Black ice on the roads makes road travel a bit dicey in colder areas though.

Summer is also great and like winter there is no guarantee of the weather but the pohutukawa are in bloom and the beautiful beaches are there to cool down in.

Even if the weather is crap you will enjoy yourself if you set your mind to it. The place is lovely - even in the pouring rain!

Have a great trip!
