Is there a demand for British Primary School teachers in New Zealand?
There is a demand for teachers here anyway!! We are coming to terms with the shortage now, but there has been a shortage of teachers with meaningful experience, as well as definite shortages of male teachers in primary schools.
Just for interests' sake, there's also a huge demand for good science, maths, information technology and graphics/art/visual arts type teachers in our secondary schools. There is also a demand, although to a lesser extent, for good language teachers (especially in our indigenous MÄori language).
If you do make serious moves to teach here, be prepared for a myriad of red tape and paperwork to become 'NZ-certified.'
I have included links to recent articles in the media which hopefully gives you some background on what's been happening with regard to our teacher shortages. The final link goes to the 'TeachNZ' website (they are a unit within the New Zealand government's Ministry of Education). This page discusses what you need to do to enter the New Zealand system as a teacher.
