Is there an equivalent to the UK 6th form education in New Zealand?

We are hoping to move to New Zealand. Our oldest is 16 and should start 6th form in September.

I'm struggling to find information about what happens at 16 in New Zealand schools.

Is there an equivalent - or would she need to attend college instead?

If you're able to point me in the direction as to art/graphic design education after 16 in NZ too that would help.

Thanks~~

To all those that ask questions about emigrating/immigrating to/from the UK – I always write the following message:

Please ensure your reason for moving to another country is not because you believe that your own country is bad. Each country has up sides and down sides.

Yes, the UK is expensive, but other countries that are taxed lower don’t have the quality infrastructure that the UK has.

Yes, the climate is changeable, but that is why everything is green.

Yes, there are loads of foreigners, but if you move to another country, you’re doing just the same.

Think really, really carefully. I see loads of comments about a “honeymoon” period, whereby moving abroad has a novelty factor for a couple of months. But that can easily wear off, and it may be that you’re going to incur lots of expense instead of just thinking it through carefully first.

Just a thought! Good luck in whatever you do.

sounds very similar NZ used to name year levels as 5th form 6th form etc now it is years. 6th form is year 12 when most students are 16-17 and then year 13 which is generally 17-18 after that you have colleges or uni. the person above me has given some good links

er just remember that the start of the academic year doesn't starting the southern hemisphere till after the new year (due to there summer holidays being from December-January) so there maybe a period of a few months where your oldest is out of education till they 'fit back' into the academic year.

Go to www.minedu.govt.nz click on schools then click on schooling in new zealand - a guide.
For art/design schools try: www.aut.ac.nz/schools/art_and_design
Its supposed to be one of the better ones.
Also try : www.elam.auckland.ac.nz
Which is also reputed to be one of the best.
Hope you get your 'silver wings' soon and come join us in paradise!
Good Luck.
