Job Salary in New Zealand? |
HI,
I am planning to migrate to New Zealand and I saw a job that perfectly suits my credentials. The annual IT job salary is roughly around NZD 40K. Given the cost of living in Auckland, NZ and me being a migrant, is the salary enough for me to get by, and hopefully save some money for the future?
Thanks! Additional Details Sorry, forgot to add to this question that I am also planning to migrate there with my family (wife and 2 kids).
@dookie, it's in Albany, Auckland
@Pagrus, are you serious about that? That's some serious and scary stories... |

Salaries in New Zealand are not very high in comparison to the cost of living. $40,000 would be a decent salary for there however it wouldn't provide you with a brilliant standard of living. Looking after a family of four on that income would not leave you with a lot of money left over to save. I'd suggest looking at other areas like Australia instead if you're concerned about finances after you have moved. |

Would think so, though definitely not a high salary.
Is definitely a good starting point! |

It will depend on where you want to live in Auckland, in the cheaper area's i would say you should be ok.
Do you know where your job is located in Auckland? |

If you're single with no kids then yeah. Auckland can be pretty expensive for rent though but if you look hard enough you might be able to find a cheap place to stay, depends what area you want to stay in. But $40, 000 per annum is okay.
Just a little advice, for power you should go through GLO BUG. It can be alot cheaper than going through other power companies. GLO BUG will give you a little blue card, it kind of looks like a phone card. It works as a recharge card. Just like a recharge card for your cellphone, when you run out of credit on your cellphone you buy another card at the store aye? That's how GLO BUG works. You take your card into a petrol station (that's the only place you can top it up) and you pay your power over the counter.
For you because you're single I'd say that you'd only use maybe $25-$30 per week on power. And that works out to about $100-$120 per month which is pretty good I guess. You may even spend less! Anyways I'm rambling lol.
GOOD LUCK. |

I am sorry but thats a joke for the IT industry. Anyone in that industry on less than 100k must have a pathetic role. Also be careful about where you gain accomodation in NZ.
I would advise anyone that intends to visit New Zealand to first log onto the local yahoo news website, www.yahoo.co.nz to witness the horror of rapes, murders and violent bashings and assaults that are occurring in this country on a daily basis. Just monitor the site for a few days to witness the frequency of crime.
New Zealand has turned into a very dark and dangerous country with many areas of Auckland too dangerous to visit. If coming to New Zealand do not visit areas of Auckland like Mangere, Papatoetoe, Otara, Manurewa, Wiri, Middlemore, Otahuhu, East Tamaki, Takanini, Westfield, Onehunga, Kelston, Penrose, Manukau, Homai and Drury to name a few.
Areas of Auckland central city are also very dangerous, especially at night. This has horrific crime and violence. If visiting be very very careful, get into a “Corporate Cab” that is driven by a New Zealander, if you don’t want to be driven 10 times further than you need to go and get ripped off. Preferably get picked up by friends and/or a reputable international tourist company shuttle/bus.
Unless you are staying and travelling with friends familiar with the “dark spots” of this country be very careful.
An honest and concerned Kiwi |
