Living in New zealand, please help?

A couple and a child of 2 will be moving to New Zealand, precisely to wellington.
They won't be paying for rent or mortgage, the company will pay 50% of the house bills, they will use public transport and won't drive to save money.
The combined income AFTER TAX will be 4,059 nzd a month. Is that a decent wage to live on for a family of three also considering the things i wrote above?

Definitely. You'll have $1000ish a week to spend. Your household bills shouldn't be more than $300 (including food). If you're living in the city then you'll be able to use buses. For $95 per month, you can travel on the bus as many times as you like. Or $5 a day if you aren't going to be using it that regularly. Wellington has a higher living cost than a lot of other cities in New Zealand but with your wage you'll be earning a lot more than the average NZer. It sounds like you're keen to save money where you can, so you shouldn't have much trouble.

Good luck.

$4059 a month, leaves you with almost $1015 a week. Wow!! That's practically luxury, considering the economic problems New Zealand is currently going through - they are very lucky indeed! Wellington is a lovely city, although the living costs can be a bit expensive, fortunately there's no need to pay rent or a mortgage... Perhaps the family would be able to go and have a few weekend trips here and there to explore New Zealand a bit =)

They should be able to live comfortably on that, especially as they have subsidised housing which is a big cost. They may find they want to drive if they want to see something of the country, and happily petrol has dropped in price quite considerably to around $1.53 a litre. It may even drop more.

Wellington is a compact city and easy to get around.

That should be enough to be comfortable. Especially as you are not paying rent! and Wellington is not thaaat big for public transport so can be cheap. Although its not plentiful, I myself was on 500-600nzd a week, But paying rent 160nzd a week but still managed to save money for traveling overseas.

Either way, im sure you will enjoy just being there.

Well at today's current exchange rate, That's $7,332.17 NZD a month to live on.That sounds pretty good to me unless you have some extravagant living life styles you should be able save a tidy little sum.
From all reports New Zealand is a very beautiful country to live in.
