Hi. I recently went for work up in Auckland and got to spend three days roaming around up there. It is such a beutiful city! It is just like my home town Sydney but more laid back.

how do Kiwis get from North Island to South Island? is there a bridge? boats? plane? Additional Details of course there are planes. I just wonder which way is preferred, easiest, or cheapest.
Most people would either fly or use a ferry. The ferry takes about 3 hours and goes between Wellington and Picton. If you wanted to fly you could head to quite a few different locations (Picton, Blenheim, Nelson or further out on Air NZ’s route you could fly to Blenheim, Nelson, Christchurch, Timaru, Queenstown, Dunedin, Invercargill, Westport, Greymouth etc.
Some people also sail there on a private boat.

The interisland car ferry goes from Picton to Wellington, which is about 20 miles and takes about 3 hours. But Picton is at the head of a long sound. The shortest distance between the islands is about 6 miles. It's been swum several times.

No bridge. If you want speed, go by plane but if you want to see one of the most beautifull & photographic parts of New Zealand , take the ferry!
