New Zealand Skiing? Where is the best place to go for an intermediate skier?
What are the prices like for Lift passes? Im from Australia, would it be worth taking my own ski gear or hiring it? (when you take into consideration weight in lugage on a flight) Is there any hotels that you can recommend?
Thanks
See http://www.snow.co.nz/areas/area_index.asp click on the places to the left for the different ski fields - it gives a great description on what is available, how to get there, what ski levels are there etc....
Enjoy!

Any or the large commercial fields.
Turoa
Whakapapa
Mt Hutt
Cardrona
Trebble Cone
Remarkables
Coronet Peak
They all offer good intermediate skiing. We don't really have too many hardcore expert trails in NZ.

Go to queenstown, there are ski fields everywhere.
The remerkables is a high trip up, but anyway its.... Close to Queenstown
Excellent facilities
Hike to great expert terrain
Ideal for learners/intermediates
View from top unequalled in NZ
Awesome chute skiing and touring
Then theres Coronet peak
NZ's oldest and most commercial field
High Speed Six Seater Lift
Terrain is unequalled in NZ
Perfect for intermediate and expert
Only 20 minutes from Queenstown
Which is a little less high up.
Or cardrona, I'v never been to Cardrona, but people say its very 'family orientated'
A big mountain makes room for everyone. Three wide basins covered in snow, create unlimited trails. The first basin has cruising runs to build confidence. The steep second basin - Arcadia - is the home of the New Zealand Freeskiing and Boarding Championships. The third large basin is Captains where you can slice apart the corduroy. 320 hectares of snow covered fun.
Cardona Alpine Resort leads the way in child-friendly ski areas with the country’s most comprehensive Children’s Alpine Centre. Cardrona has facilities for children aged 3 months to 12 years.
They are the main queenstown ones....but in Christchurch there is Mt Hutt which has a great beginners slope. Its 3 and a half hours from christchurch.
There are hotels everywhere in both Queenstown and Christchurch, in christchurch you could get a hotel in Methven (a very small town) because its closer to Mt Hutt.
