We can get earthquakes here,i know we've had one recently in Gisbourne which was a 6.8 on the ricter scale i think.. But hasn;t been any major ones in agesss. Its good because here in NZ coz barely any major natural distasters happen. Sometimes it snows around Dunedun and around there down south in winter would have to be the coldest places at winter but usualy in summer there up there with all the other cities.. I'm in wellington which is known to be to be windy i don't really notice it.. But i've been living here for ages so supose i'm used to it:P but yeah wellingtons weather is pretty good, doesn;t get to cold.. but doesn;t get to hot if you wanna consider living here, although i find it pretty boring, but i guess thats just coz i been livinng here for 16 years. i;d say consider Wellington, Auckland, or Christurch, I personaly find them all the best but depends what suits you best. I like them Since there the biggest with the most shopping and things to do:) I don't know much about christurch and auckland only been there a few times, but i know Auckland can get very busy traffic:( plus theres lots of houses placed on volcanos (which i find pretty freaky) and they're expecting eruptions in the future.. which is even freakyer. We don't have a aussie acent but i'd say its simler but not the same lol. And there are pretty much just europeons everywhere. And acoording to this link http://www.careers.govt.nz/default.aspx?id0=60103&id1=J80099 a psychiatrist earns $80,000 and $150,000 per year so i'd have to say.. thats a hell of a lot lol :o I don't know if its pricey here, i'd say house prices would range depends where you going to live.. and i find everyday stuff not cheap.. but not expensive either lol |

There are areas of New Zealand that are on fault lines - Wellington in particular and minor earthquakes from time to time here and there all over the country. Nothing major that has caused any deaths in the last 100 years. The risk of Tsunami is there but we haven't had any. No catastrophic cyclones or gales. There is a tremendous shortage of Doctors and that's because they are paid badly compared to other parts of the world. A large percentage of our doctors are from India, to a lesser degree other Asians. The accent is similar to the Australian without the "twang" - eg. Australians pronounce their "i"s more distinctly - NZers it is more like a "u" (suck for sick etc.). New Zealanders on the whole are of European - UK decent, we don't have the large mix of Europeans that Australia has. Of course Maori are the "native' race of New Zealand but there aren't a great number although their rights and culture are emphasised.
According to 2006 census the figures were as follows:
New Zealand European 2,381,076
Mäori 565,329
New Zealander 429,429
Chinese(3) 147,570
Samoan 131,103
Indian(3) 104,583
Cook Islands Maori(3) 58,009
Tongan 50,478
English 44,202
Korean 30,792
Auckland is the largest city but in my opinion Wellington is the best. |

If you want to work as a psychiatrist here,
you will need to have excellent grades (If you are coming from an American University),
as well as practical (supervised) experience,
and then you will need to apply for admission into the RANZCP - Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Essential Selection Criteria include:
* Evidence of good standing with the relevant Medical Board and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner with that Board
* Satisfactory completion of at least 1 year full time equivalent (FTE) general medical training (Regulation 4.2)
As far as the rate of pay, I always thought that psychiatry, like physical medicine, focused more on the healing aspects rather than the salary. You choose that career because you want to help people, not get rich...
I've listed the web links below. Good luck in your studies. |

Weather is generally very sunny however in winter some parts of NZ have snow.
There hasnt been a tsunami since like 1830 and that one didnt kill anyone because there were only about 50 settlers in NZ at the time.
NZ is very short of doctors so you would find emplyment easily.
Auckland is ok, I think Wellington is much prettier, cleaner and nicer.
Our accent is not the same as Australians, its slightly different.
NZ has people from lots of different ethnicities, New Zealand european (white), Maori, Pacific Island, Asian are the main ones. However over the past 10 years there has been a major increase of immigrants from the UK. We do have a small population of American & Canadian. |
