Nice areas to live in Auckland? |
I am looking at places to stay in Auckland, and I dont know what are nice areas. The one place is in Hillsborough, and the other is in Blockhouse Bay.
Please give reasons.
Thank you |

Both are just south of the city and are near the water. They are both good areas.
The best areas in Auckland are on the North Shore, particularly around Takapuna. South east Auckland is also nice around Howick and Half moon bay. Some parts of West Auckland such as Titirangi are also nice.
Mount Wellington is also nice. Suburbs around the city are expensive but very nice.
Areas to avoid are most parts of South Auckland, although some parts are nice.
West Auckland is also a bit dangerous but hay! It's nz, can't be that bad. Some parts of West Auckland are nice.
Thanks for the question :) |

They are both nice parts of suburban residental Auckland. Easy to get to the city by bus only as public transport, guessing 25 to 35mins.Two Major shopping Malls with in 10 to 15mins by car. Airport 20 minutes away non peak hour.
Plenty of work opportunities in retail or light industrial near by.
Recreational opportunities are not to bad locally but it depends what you are looking for. Price veriable and again depends on what you are looking for. |

I'm not really too sure where either of those are, but i think blockhouse bay is near a place called howick, its pretty nice out there. little weatherboard houses and stuff. i wouldnt recommend anything in south auckland, its where all the crime and youth gang stuff happens. if you want to be in an area densely populated by fellow south africans, i would suggest the north shore. you get to be within about 2 kms of the ocean, and dogs just love walking on the beach. you can just let em loose...
if youre looking for places to rent, try www.trademe.co.nz
im sure its got a flatmates wanted part... |

Blockhouse Bay is nowhere near Howick. It's in west Auckland, near New Lynn. I'd live in Hillsborough, or Ponsonby, Pt Chevelier, Western Springs etc. But it will be cheaper if you lived in Blockhouse Bay. It's still nice there. |

North shore
Most suburbs on the north shore are nice and affordable. Close to the beach and still close to the city. Better public transport (bus lanes all the way to the city) and Albany, which is on the north shore is the fastest growing city within Auckland. Suburbs I would recommend are Takapuna, Birkenhead, Glenfield, Wairau,Milford, Albany and any of 'the bays' (however the bays arent great for public transport)
I wouldn't recommend South Auckland...I grew up there but moved to the North Shore as soon as I could afford to move out. Its becoming very crime ridden down there. |
