Hi there, what do you mean by the bridge ? if you mean the harbour bridge then the only way you could do that is in a car going over it as you cant walk over it! or you could do bridge walk where you get into special suits and harnesses etc but i dont really think thats very romantic! If you want city viesw then the sky tower revolving resturant (called orbit) is so nice at night, looking over all the lights. Places without views include the Auckland domain (outside the Auckland war museum) which is a huge park woith flowers and ponds etc - its where my dad proposed to my mum! but then again in august it will most probably be raining so keep that in mind!

I agree with others that the Sky Tower is actually a little tacky...although there is a fancy revolving restaurant in the top with gorgeous views, if you want to propose over dinner.
But if you're outdoorsy sort of people, consider proposing on the top of Rangitoto island, which is this huge dormant volcano in the harbour. You could climb to the top (at max an hour or so), and then propose up there with incredible views of the city, the bay, the other harbour islands...

Bastion point, it overlooks Rangitoto island and the sea. You should, if its there, lookup on You Tube perhaps, a hilarious Air New Zealand Advert that was screening here in 2004 I think it was, about a guy who is trying to propose to his girlfriend, and he blindfolds her and takes her out to a West Coast beach 30 mins from Auckland, when they get to 'WILL YOU MARRY ME' in the sand, the tide washes it away, then he takes her to I think Bastion point for a romantic picnic and the temperamental Auckland weather sabotages it, the Devonport restaurant is too noisy... Your message made me think of that apt advert! he ends up booking a ticket with Air NZ to Sydney and proposes to her in a hot air ballon over Sydney Harbour- but he drops the ring over the edge, very clever ad. She says yes.

Anywhere on top of one of the dormant volcanoes - One tree hill or Mt Eden, or perhaps do the Sky City Challenge or the Harbour Bridge crossing - really NZ is more beautiful if you went OUT of Auckland and proposed to your partner elsewhere.

Hi

I think the Skytower would not be a good choice; I cant think of a less romantic place to be honest. Actually, I can't think of anywhere in Auckland that would classify as 'romantic', although the bridge might be interesting. I find it quite amazing that you would come from Tasmania to Auckland to to make a romantic proposal.

My suggestion would be to go outside Auckland for a day trip to somewhere beautiful and propose there. How about an Eco tour or a trip down into some underground caves??

I've given a website below that lists day trips out of Auckland - there should be something in there that takes your fancy!!

Bon Chance!

PS: Also remember that in August you will be gambling with the weather.
