Planning a trip to New Zealand... any places I should definitely go?

I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed by all the places I could possibly go in NZ.

As a NZ resident, what are some of your favorite places, and why?

Thanks a million!

Hey

As a kiwi living in Auckland, here are some cool as places i recommend:

First off...Auckland!

They call our place the city of sails and it's true!

In Auckland you can:

Bungee jump! from the Harbour bridge! Super fun and a fun unique way to enjoy the scenery!

Do the sky jump or sky walk. Bungee Jump from 130 m (i think its 130 cant remember :S) off the sky tower, Or walk around it the sky tower with the sky walk!

Walk up Rangitoto Island (a dormant volcano) - I've done this 3 times now and it still hasn't failed to amaze me with the beautiful view when you're all the way up there...simply stunning! And you get to go through lava caves too =]

Rotorua - Be sure to go there, Enjoy the native giant Redwood forest and relax in the natural thermal pools

Also right now is a good time to go skiing or snowboarding in Queenstown =]

Hope this helps =]

The South Island is much more sparsely populated and also much more spectacular in terms of scenery! Milford Sound, in the deep South, is like no other place on earth; Queenstown is beautiful but completely overrun by tourists - Wanaka is equally beautiful but less touristy! A lot of the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed around the Queenstown area - Glenorchy, around the lake from Queenstown, is where Isengard was filmed. Personally I love the little town of Akaroa, on Banks Peninsula, about 1 1/2 hours from Christchurch - it was originally settled by the French and is a very interesting and peaceful place. Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds are beautiful, plus there are lots of vineyards in the area - always a good reason to visit!

I went to Aukland, New Zealand. It was beautiful. Can't really go wrong with New Zealand. There is a HUGE crater that over looks Aukland too....that was really interesting to see. Oooh, and if you are a "Lord of the Rings" fan, you could go to the place they filmed part of it. That was really neat to see. Have fun! Such a great place!!

New Zealand is not very big It depends how long you are there for. Best to Fly into Auckland and out of Christchurch. The South Island is the most Stunning amazing Mountains lakes etc North island is more populated . I'm not a lover of Auckland although there are some beautiful areas North. South Auckland is awful. So you can hire a car maybe go to Taupo and Rotorua but keep the longest part of your stay in The South Island. Have 2 or 3 nights in Wellington. The harbour is lovely boutique shops and a trip in the cable car and a walk through the Botanical gardens . They are lush. Drop the car off in Wellington and Take the Ferry to picton in the South island . about $65 for a 3 hour trip . Pick up another hire car. Drive to Nelson Via Queen Charlotte Sounds from Nelson Drive to Kaiteriteri and The Able Tasman National Park. Then down the West Coast through Fox Glacier and Franze Joseph to Wanaka and Queenstown and back to Christchurch to Fly out.

Don't go to Dunnedin or Wellington specially, they are drab and boring. Go to The south island's wine regions because they are beautiful! Also go to Queenstown. If you don't go anywhere else, you HAVE to visit Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound. Also, the ilsands off Auckland are nice, especially Waikeke, where it is pretty and tranquil
