Residents of Christchurch?

After viewing pictures of your city on google maps street view, I am amazed. It looks so good! Nice buildings and parks etc.

What's it like living there?

How bad is the crime? I hear it's pretty bad in the city haha.

Tell me everything about your city. I wish to visit!

Thanks in advance :)

Aw, thank you! (:

I live about twenty minutes out of Christchurch in a suburb called Rolleston. But my mother and her partner live in a suburb called Hei Hei.

It is very nice as we are known as 'The Garden City." We have many parks and gardens as you say and the Botanical Gardens is internationally known.

Crime is not too bad. I mean, there are good areas and bad areas but doesn't every town?

We have a river running through it called Avon River which leads out the Pacific Ocean. It is very nice and a good way to get some quiet time on a busy day. Our beaches are nice but the wind can get very cold out there. Winter means snow sometimes - this year it happened three times - once every fortnight through that period. We don't get sticky when the heats happened and we have cold wind in the winter. The most amazing thing about it is the people. We are friendly and helpful and we are most welcoming to tourists.

If you want more info, go to http://www.opshopmusic.com and click on the "Big Energy In A Can Tour.' This will open up a new window and click on "Christchurch - City Of Cities." and download the song. It is by a NZ band brought up here in Christchurch. It explains the town lovely.

Hope it was helpful! Message me if you want more info k?

The Port Hills are great if you enjoy mountain biking or just walking amongst the nature and it leads to lovely views over the city on one side and out to Diamond habour and Lyttleton (the port town for Christchurch) on the other. Sumner and further along the coast has some fantastic beaches and I reccomend walking over the hill to Taylors mistake, a beautiful little beach enclosed by high cliffs on either side.
There is also a pretty good art gallery in the city now with some great pieces and the museums not too bad either. The Art Centre is a nice way to spend a lazy day aswell.
All of these things are free. Brilliant.
Most cafe's in the city make pretty decent coffee but dont expect too much from 'The Strip'. A row of nightclubs running for one block along the banks of the Avon river, instead I suggest going to South of Lichfield. This is an old part of the city that has been devoloped with an old school theme. Generally an older crowd but live music though.
And yes there is violent crime like everywhere.

Alright, I don't live in Christchurch. But I must say it looks splendid. I think it's cause of the high population there, the higher the population the higher chance of crime...

It's okay... there's good areas and bad areas. The older parts of the inner city like the arts centre are probably the best on offer.
As far as crime... despite being notorious as the 'murder capital of New Zealand' I don't think it's that bad, I've never been mugged or anthing. But you definitely need to try and stay away from trouble before it starts.
