K rd is Karangahape Road at the top of Queen St. Dressmart at Onehunga Mall. And the Smith & Caugheys sales are excellent (on Queen St, the Newmarket branch is too small). Their sales are now I think (was on a few weeks ago) & again in June/July I think. You can ring them to ask exactly when. I've bought cheap Calvin Klein, Dickies, etc in Smith & Caugheys & they have great bags & lingerie but it's all only affordable in their sales. Did you know alot of NZers do their shopping while on holiday in Australia? I just went to Sydney & got some total bargains, some fantastic dresses for only $40, which would be like $200 here! And loads of clothes reduced to $10! You'd never get them cheaper than $40 here on special. For winter clothes it's not good though as they have mild winters so their clothes are not warm enough for NZ but you might get a good coat over there. Melbourne has a really cheap but good quality leather store called Sirocco, they have branches all over Downtown Melbourne.
Also Caroline Sills in Devonport, Auckland have great sales twice a year, ring them for when. Usually about January & July I think. It's designer stuff, alot of black clothes. You can catch the ferry there from Downtown. Also some second hand stores in the wealthier areas, including opportunity shops (op-shops like Red Cross, etc) can have really cheap great stuff. Try Mt Eden & Ponsonby. The Hospice shop in Mt Eden is great. I just bought a great fake crocodile skin jacket there for $20, it was brand new & I know they cost around $200!! Even in Australia I couldn't find a cheap one.
For funky gifts try Iko Iko on K Road & for funky NZ made gifts & jewellery try Texan Art Schools in Newmarket & other areas. |

dress smart in onehunga mall is end of line and seconds....can be really good or not so good....a bit hit and miss, but worth a look.
the new mall out in Albany on the northshore is the biggest and newest mall..ok mostly mainstream, but hey, a huge selection and a lot of good "mainstream" shops have some good edgy lines in...try kookai, max, even Farmers has a couple of good labels now....
K road is karangahape road at the top of queen street....
newmarket is more upmarket
try op shops in some of the upmarket areas: remuera parnell ponsonby epsom
i find ranges are limited, so if you want the best pick of winter pieces then get in early.....i guess try about early march.
for good bargains hit the sales at the end of season....but of course you will only get sloppy seconds...a good time to get some basic pieces though.....

Hey, I live in Auckland also.
If you're looking for some unique stuff, try Smoove which is in Little High Street. There are details of it's new location at the link I've given below.
There are some neat thrift stores around if you're into that thing, try K Road for stuff like that.
Other than that there are surf shops such as Amazon, Quicksilver, Rip Curl and Billabong. There's an Amazon in the Downtown shopping complex.
Hurstmere Road in Takapuna is a good place to shop as well.
A lot of girls shop at Supre but that is mass produced and not very unique.
Hope I could be of some help! |
