Auckland is very sleepy and quiet but it really has a charm all of its own and it will grow on you in time.It has a very beautiful natural setting with lots of hills, parks, bays, beaches etc. in the city.

The weather is crap a lot of the time, but the summers are OK. The natives are very friendly and polite. Shops close outrageously early, even at the weekends, and the nitelife is comatose. Restaurants are poor, but the asian foodcourts are superb and filthy cheap. The coffee is universally top class, but cafe food prices are extortionate. The health service is probably the best in the World, and is very inexpensive. The education system is very good, at least for young kids ... I'd be a bit more dubious about NZ universities, given my experience with Kiwi graduates.
