Should I buy a hair straightner and a converter in the US or just buy a straightener in New Zealand? |
I'm going to New Zealand in a few weeks and the straightener i have now would need a converter to work, but I've heard bad things about using a converter with a hair dryer, etc. What should i do? |

Depends where you are staying. The better hotels have converted voltage outlets for 110v appliances. Otherwise, bring your own, the conversion rate of the US$ will make appliances very expensive. |

Buy the converter finding decent straightners in NZ is hard. |

My son uses a converter for his play boy,& my sister uses one also for her straightener. Either way, for a good converter you'll pay around or above $60NZ, or $60 for a decent hair straightener. The Game Boy & Straightener are both US products. |

Well that all depends on if you are living in New Zealand or not. It would be common sense to buy one in the US and buy a converter for NZ if you are just going for a holiday. It all depends on the converter if you are using a hairdryer. Your best bet is to buy a converter that can handle the amount of watts output of your hairdryer. I have never heard of any problems from converters but just to be sure get some advice from a US and then a NZ electrician or even the place where your converter is manufactured. (Dont get advice from the retailer you bought it from. chances are they know NOTHING about electrical stuff) |

We have different voltage to US but check to see if the one you have has a built in converter.I have a heated hair thing - not a straightener that has a converter button.( Braun I think) which works fine anywhere. Otherwise they are not that expensive to buy at a store such as Briscoes, The Warehouse, or Kmart. |
