I have been to New Zealand and found the country to be
quite beautiful and the people quite friendly. I actually put a small personal advertizement in the major newspaper, the Auckland Star, indicating that I was a single, responsible, friendly man who would like to stay in a typical home for a few days. I was quite willing to pay for food and a place to sleep.

I was amazed that I received quite a few replies. I wound up staying at several different homes and had a great time.

This may be a way to meet some of the people and share some of your experiences before finding more permanent residence and employment. I am sure the people will be happy to give you all kinds of advice about jobs, housing, places to see, and other kinds of useful information.
